From June 30 to July 5, the International Joint Conference on Neural Networks 2025 (#IJCNN2025) was held in Rome at the splendid Pontifical Gregorian University, and I had the honor of participating.

The conference officially opened on June 30 with tutorials and continued the following day with an inspiring ceremony at the prestigious Teatro Quirino. Danilo Comminiello, General Chair, kicked off the conference by laying the groundwork for what proved to be an exceptional gathering of minds in the field of neural networks and artificial intelligence research.

The opening keynote address, “Ethics and Security of AI in the Age of Generative AI,” delivered by Francesca Rossi, was exciting and timely. Her reflections on the critical challenges we face as generative AI continues to redefine our technological landscape were thought-provoking and practical. I had the privilege of meeting Francesca Rossi in person; her expertise and vision for the responsible development of AI continue to be invaluable to our industry.

IJCNN remains one of the premier venues for deepening our understanding of neural networks, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

The quality of the research presentations and the caliber of the participants make this conference an essential event for anyone serious about pushing the boundaries of innovation in AI.

On the afternoon of July 1, the “AI Policy and Regulation” workshop took place. At 2:10 p.m., I had the honor of welcoming, albeit remotely, European Deputy Brando Benifei, who delivered the Plenary Talk “Navigating the Implementation of the AI Act.” This presentation is crucial in light of the European Union’s innovative legislation, which is setting global standards for AI governance.

After Mr. Benifei’s speech, I moderated Panel 2 of the workshop “Responding to Change: Implementation, standardization and Certification for Research and Development in AI” in the Loyola room, which featured prominent speakers such as Mimmo Squillace, Valentina Grazia Sapuppo, Domenico Natale, and Massimo Ruffolo. Some of the most pressing regulatory challenges currently facing AI researchers and practitioners were addressed.

The convergence of technical innovation and policy frameworks is becoming increasingly crucial as AI technologies mature and spread into mainstream applications. I am excited to have facilitated this critical dialogue on how to bridge the gap between research excellence and regulatory compliance effectively.

The intersection of cutting-edge research, practical applications, and policy considerations makes IJCNN a truly comprehensive platform for advancing our field.

Participating in IJCNN 2025 was an enriching experience that allowed me to:
✨ Contribute my expertise on AI regulatory compliance and standards to the conference
✨ Learn from leading experts in the field of AI/ML
✨ Gain in-depth knowledge of cutting-edge research and developments

Special thanks to all the members of the organizing committee for their dedication and professionalism.
I believe in the importance of international collaboration for advancing science and technology.
